COURSES FOR KID'S AND YOUTH TRIATHLONS ON SATURDAY
Distances for the kid's triathlon for ages 5-8 will be approximately: swim 25 meter; bike 1.70 miles; run .60 mile..
Distances for the youth triathlon for ages 9-12 will be approximately: swim 100 meter; bike 3.4 miles (2 loops of the kid's course); run 1.80 miles (3 loops of the kid's course).
Except for a portion of the bike course, the kid's and youth courses will be within Ellis-Porter Park. Part of the bike course takes place on Riverside Drive with a turnaround at Riverside Drive and Riviera Street. The run will take kids up the park path around the CRMU Healthcare Amphitheater and back down to the finish on the path along Ellis Porter Drive. We are working hard to make this a fun event, so distances may be slightly adjusted.
COURSES FOR SUNDAY SPRINT, SPRINT RELAY, SUPERSPRINT AND DUATHON
SWIM
The swim event is a 400 meter snake swim for the sprint or a 200 meter snake swim for the super sprint. After completing 100 meters in each lane, go under the lane line to enter the next lane. Diving is not allowed at the start. At the end of swim you may exit at the end of the pool or use the grab rails and steps at the finish end. If all competitors gauge their swim time correctly and line up in the correct order, there should be little if any overtaking. (We recommend you practice your times, so you know your ability level and where to line up for pool entry.) If a competitor touches your feet let that swimmer pass, then continue to swim. The pool is a 4-lane, 50-meter pool. The outer lane lines in lane 1 and 4 will not be used. This will make those lanes wider than normal and should aid in any passing that is necessary.
BIKE
You must have your helmet on and chin strap in place before you exit the transition area and approach the timing point. Volunteers will monitor this and will delay you at the timing point. Only after exiting the transition area and passing the timing point can only mount your bike at the mount/dismount line. When returning to the transition area dismount only at the mount/dismount line. If you are a super sprint participant, follow guidance on course turnaround points.
The Jefferson City Police Department will be at key, but not all intersections. Event volunteers with safety vests and flags will be at all intersections and directional points. Follow their directions on the course. Directional arrows should be found periodically on the course. Find course maps on this website and the registration website. If you come upon a competitor with a mechanical issue or medical issue, advise the next volunteer or JCPD officer of the situation.
SPRINT/SUPERSPRINT BIKE COURSE TURN-BY-TURN DIRECTIONS:
This is an out-and-back course with one exception. Where E. McCarty meets E. High at the triangle in front of Warwick Village, please stay right onto E. High, then turn right onto Lincoln. Follow the course back to the transition area. Before entering the transition area, stay right at the concrete divider. Supersprint course is identical, except your turnaround will be at Tomahawk and Algoa Road. Volunteers will be there to assist you.
RUN
Exit the transition area following the "barrier taped" chute that goes on the south side of the pool house, pool and pool equipment building to paved park paths going east or counterclocwise through the park. Follow signage and volunteer direction.
Supersprint athletes: The first water station will be the halfway point and turnaround for the super-sprint. Follow the same path back, but at the park turn right and go downhill on park paths to the finish line.
Sprint distance athletes: Continue past the first water station to the turnaround at the front of the old prison. Follow the same path back. At the park turn right to follow the park path downhill to the finish line.
